RE:Firefighter AccountabilityTino A. Yaccich and Mark Nanna... Re: Firefighter Accountability
More and more firefighters are dying each year due to a multitude of different reasons. By no means do we claim that a well-implemented accountability system could have prevented these deaths. What we do believe is that it will make a difference in the future. Accountability has quickly become an integral part of the Incident Command System. Accountability is more than simply collecting tags and holding them until the incident is over. The accountability officer position carries with it a great deal of responsibility. A properly trained accountability officer tracks ALL on scene personnel, their location, duties, air supply, time in/out, just to name a few. As a command officer on an incident, this just adds to your duties, an accountability officer can take this added weight off of your shoulders. We have developed an inexpensive, effective system that is easy to implement to any department, as well as any situation. There are approximately fifty fire departments in our area that believe in and are using this system, some as large as fifty members, some as small as ten. Some paid, some volunteer. Our system is currently at the PA State Fire Academy, and the US Fire Academy under consideration for induction into curriculum. If you are interested in hearing more about this system, we would be happy to sit down with you and explain the system to you in greater detail. This system can be taught to your entire department in just a few hours. Feel free to contact us with any questions. Or see our web site www.abbetrit.org
